Teenager got bashed up in Gurney Drive

Just a piece of news for us to share and reflects on what has happen to our society right now.

PENANG: A school-leaver who tried to help two girls in distress is now in a coma at the Penang Hospital after he was beaten up by a motorcycle gang in Gurney Drive.

Asrin Mohsin, 18, was brutally attacked by about 10 youths after he and some friends asked them not to tease the girls.

Asrin, who suffered severe head injuries, was sent to hospital by a motorist at about 4am on Saturday and is now on life support.



“He is my only son but I have come to accept that there is no more hope for him. Doctors told me his brain has stopped functioning, his skull, cheeks and neck are fractured and his lungs are bleeding,” said Mohsin Hassan, 61, a retired hospital attendant from Jelutong.

“He has many friends and never gets involved in fights, so how can anyone do such a brutal thing to him?” he said at the hospital last night where a large group of relatives and friends were keeping vigil.

His wife Rokiah Noor, 60, was too distressed to talk to the press.

Mohsin said his son was riding pillion on one of five motorcycles with his friends when they saw a group of boys teasing two girls, one of whom was related to Asrin's friend.

“They urged the boys not to tease the girls and the matter was considered settled. However, the gang believed to be from Tanjung Tokong called more members. They attacked my son while his friends fled on their motorcycles,” Mohsin said.
