A rare gem

In this modern era of football, where pornographic amount of money (as describe by the President of FIFA, Sepp Blatter) are being thrown around to the players, it is very hard to find a sincere servant who will play with their heart, and will die for their club.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is one very rare gem in the world of football today. He arrived at Old Trafford a virtual unknown in July 1996, costing only £1.5million , from Norwegian club, Molde.

And his salary? A meagre £13 000 per week. I repeat, meagre! Well, it's a meagre sum when players like Roy Keane, Beckham, RVN...are taking home 4 or 5 times what he is taking. And he NEVER complained! His contract were renewed few years ago, which I don't remember when, cos it was renewed WITHOUT any hassle.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signs a new 2 year contract. pic not by At.

In fact, he didn't even ask for a pay rise, but the club offered him an increment to £30 000 per week, and it is still relatively meagre, compare to what players like Rooney or Ferdinand are taking home. But he never really complain, because he just loves playing for Man Utd. He's almost born and bred Man Utd. It's a shame he is not part of the Class of '92. You will be even more surprised if you finds out that he grew up supporting Liverpoo!

No wonder Sir Alex is willing to offer him a 2-year contract when his current one expire at the end of this season. Man Utd almost never offer anyone at the age of over 30 a 2-year contract. This show how much he is treasured by Man Utd. If we have more players like Ole, tickets to football matches will be more affordable, and football jerseys will not cost you your arm, or leg.

Solskjaer Pens New Reds Deal

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed a new two-year contract with United, which will keep him at the club until June 2008.

The new contract takes the 33-year-old Norwegian forward to the age of 35, and manager Sir Alex Ferguson says the deal will allow Ole to develop coaching experience.

“I am delighted that Ole has signed a new two year deal," Sir Alex said. "It reflects our hope that he would return to full play after his recent cheek injury.

"Ole has always adopted a positive position in that respect and his positive attitude gave him a big chance to come back. It will take Ole to thirty five and gives him the opportunity to develop his coaching experience.

"We also foresee him having a key role as an ambassador for the Club in the future,” the Reds boss added.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I have always felt at home here and I want to repay the loyalty that has been shown to me by the club, the fans and Sir Alex.

"It has been a difficult and frustrating few years for me but I’m determined to prove my worth over the next few years and I am sure I can contribute to the team and their success. Although my priority is to keep playing I am looking forward to exploring the coaching opportunity being given to me by the club.

"I have spent many happy years at Old Trafford and it will be a great privilege to represent the Club in a wider role.”
